Why did Madam C.J. Walker Gain so Much Fame

Today Madam Walker wouldn’t have gotten nearly as much fame. Hair growers are a common product and thanks to people like Martin Luther King Jr. and Susan B. Anthony, black-American women don’t have to deal with nearly as much prejudice and discrimination as they once did. So today her actions aren’t a big feat, but in her day, her actions were enormous. back then the industrial revolution was just beginning. She was born in 1867, known then as Sarah Breedlove, just after the American Civil War. She may have been born in a time when she was free, but she was still born on a plantation and she faced major amounts of discrimination for being black and a women. This would continue until the Civil Rights Act of 1939 was signed, and women didn’t get full rights until 1920. Sadly Madam Walker Died in 1919 at 51, but her efforts greatly helped reach women’s independence and all because she spoke out.
